Medical Marijuana Cultivation OK'd by City Council

( Cincinnati ) - Another step toward medical marijuana in the Queen City.

On Tuesday, the Law and Public Safety Committee voted to allow medical marijuana cultivators to set up in existing manufacturing districts in the city. On Wednesday, Cincinnati City Council followed through with an unanimous green light.

But it's not a sure thing that pot cultivation will happen. "There's only going to be twelve large and twelve small cultivators allowed in the entire state of Ohio, so there's no guarantee that Cincinnati will even have one," said Kevin Flynn to 700WLW's Scott Sloan on Wednesday morning before the vote. It's still up to the state control board which organizations even get a license.

Ohio lawmakers legalized marijuana for medicinal purposes last year, and the system for cultivation and distribution isn't expected to be up and running until sometime in 2018.
