(Cincinnati, Oh.)--Hamilton County's Coroner hasn't reached a conclusion about the cause of death of 22-year-old Otto Warmbier.
Hamilton County Coroner Dr. Lakshmi Sammarco's office said Tuesday, that per the Warmbier family's request, only an external examination was to be performed on their sons body. The family objected to an autopsy.
The University of Virginia student died at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center less than a week after he was released from North Korea in a coma.
The statement from the Coroners Office says In addition to the external exam, medical records from the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and AeroMed Management Group (air ambulance service) have been reviewed, and extensive conversations with his treating physician at UC Medical Center have taken place. There will be more interviews conducted and records reviewed.
The 2013 Wyoming High School grad died Monday and his funeral is now set for 9 A.M. Thursday at the High School. It is open to the public.
Warmbier was arrested 2016 as he was trying to leave North Korea. He had been accused of trying to steal a propaganda banner while visiting with a tour group. He was publicly sentenced to 15 years in prison with hard labor. It is believed he fell into a coma short after his March 2016 sentencing.
