36-Year-Sentence for Deputy Shooting

( Warren County ) - This past April, Mohammed Laghaoui was convicted of multiple counts including attempted aggravated murder for the shooting of a sheriff's deputy. Laghaoui was sentenced to 36 years in prison on Wednesday.

Deputy Katie Barnes was shot while responding to a domestic complaint at a home in Deerfield Township on June 9, 2016. It was her second visit to the home, after having been initially called there less than an hour before because of a fight over hummus. Laghaoui's brother initially called 911 because Laghaoui had apparently eaten too much of his father's hummus, and the two were arguing.

Prosecutors say Laghaoui fired at least seven shots at Deputy Barnes, striking her in the abdomen. He then ran from the scene, prompting a manhunt that lasted for hours. Laghaoui's father, Abdessadek, was also shot in the hand.
