New Kroger Coming Downtown


( Cincinnati ) - New apartments, a new parking garage, and a new supermarket... all coming downtown soon.

A major announcement Tuesday from Kroger, the City of Cincinnati, 3CDC, and developers North American Properties, Northpointe Group, and Rookwood Properties will build a $90.5 million, 18-story mixed-use development at the corner of Court and Walnut. The structure will feature 139 luxury apartments, a 55-space parking garage, and a new Kroger supermarkets.

The development will be the first new supermarket in downtown Cincinnati in decades.

Kroger says it will close its Over-the-Rhine location on Vine Street, and all employees there will be transferred to the new store. The old Kroger location will be donated to 3CDC. The new Kroger will offer groceries on the ground floor, and feature a bar and food hall on the second floor. 

Cincinnati will own the garage, and 3CDC will be the operator. The development group will own and manage the apartments. 

Kroger says it expects the new store to open in 2019.
