Health Department To Open New Health Center

There are nearly 7,000 Evanston, Walnut Hills and East Walnut Hills students who lack regular access to dental and vision care, but a new grant from non-profit OneSight will help to ease the problem. Interim Cincinnati Health Commissioner Dr. Marilyn Crumpton tells 700WLW they will be building a new health center at the Academy of World Languages that will provide a full range of medical services to the community.

"We'll begin construction hopefully pretty close to the beginning of Fall on this center," said Dr. Crumpton, "It will provide expanded medical services, dental services and then the vision services."

Dr. Crumpton said it will be much like the health center at the Oyler School. The new center will take insurance or will provide service on a sliding payment scale based on income to those without insurance and she adds no one will be turned away who needs medical care.

According to Dr. Crumpton, the AWL was chosen as a second vision center because of its centralized location for East side schools. For AWL, more than half of the students are refugees and immigrants from more than 50 countries.

Dr. Crumpton said the new center is expected to open by the end of 2018.
