(Akron, Oh.)--A 1-year-old Ohio boy has died days after he was was believed to have overdosed on opioids and was revived with Narcan.
The boy died Sunday night, according to the Summit County Medical Examiner's office, three days after he overdosed at a home in Akron.
Police say a 9-year-old boy called 911 Thursday evening after noticing that his young brother had stopped breathing. Paramedics arrived and gave the baby one dose of Narcan, he then received another dose of the overdose reversal drug at a local hospital and resumed breathing on his own.
Police say the child's mother Destanie T. Carter, 25, fled when police arrived. She later came to the hospital and turned herself in to police, she was arrested on an unrelated warrant out of Portage County. It is unknown at this time exactly what charges she will be facing in the child's death.
The medical examiner's office will conduct an autopsy to determine the official cause of death.
The 9 year-old boy and his siblings were taken in to the custody of the Summit County Children Services.
