(Cincinnati, Oh,)--The Cincinnati Zoo says baby Fiona is making steady progress as the premature Hippo continues to grow.
Chad Yelton the Vice President of Marketing and Communications at the Cincinnati Zoo says they would like to get Fiona outside in the large enclosure this June. "We are on track with that plan to have Fiona outside next month. It could be early June it could be mid-June but the important thing to note is just to be patient."
Yelton says a lot of factors go into account when deciding to put their smallest global phenomenon outside "Things have to be just right. It has to be at least 70 degree out and if its raining or it's thunder-storming, she is not going to be out. Certainly when she goes out at first, it may not be for all day."
The Nile hippo has now reached 250 pounds which is remarkable says Yelton, "considering when she was born just 4 months ago, she was only 29 pounds."
