( Cincinnati ) - The Hamilton County Coroner says she's reopening her office's investigation into the apparent suicide of an 8-year-old boy earlier this year.
Cincinnati Public Schools released a statement on Thursday, saying the thoughts and prayers of the district remain with the family of the Carson Elementary student who died in January. It also takes issue with any accounts that the little boy was abused after he was found laying motionless on a bathroom floor at the school. The child had allegedly been attacked and knocked unconscious. CPS says it is concerned about the length of time the boy was on the ground and the lack of adult supervision at the scene.
Two days later, the boy apparently took his own life.
A statement from a law firm representing the boy's mother takes issue with CPS' version of events. Attorney Jennifer Branch says no one at the school or in the district told the boy's mother to take him to the hospital. CPS claims the nurse found the boy's vital signs to be normal and that she told the boy's mother to pick him up and take him to the hospital to be checked out.
Responding police did not file any charges in the aftermath of the attack.
Video of the attack on the child and his subsequent discovery by other students has been made public by CPS.
