CPS Announces Next Superintendent

( CINCINNATI, OH ) -- At the end of July, current Cincinnati Public Schools superintendent Mary Ronan will call it a career and retire from her position.

The Cincinnati Public Schools Board of Education narrowed their search for her replacement down to two candidates and on May 9, they came to a decision. The board has chosen to offer the position to CPS graduate and current Deputy Superintendent of CPS, Laura Mitchell.

Mitchell says that she's very passionate about her district and believes that comes across in her work. She also says she has had an opportunity to work with Mary Ronan over the past 9 years and would like to continue the good work she has done as well as move CPS into an even better position than it's ever been.

Ronan says that the past 9 years she has been Superintendent have been wonderful, and she enjoyed working with the students and parents for nearly a decade.

Mitchell begins her job as Superintendent on August 1.
