Surprising Results in Cincinnati Primary

(Cincinnati) Cincinnati Councilwoman Yvette Simpson finished first in the Mayoral primary. Simpson beat Mayor John Cranley and former UC Trustee Rob Richardson in the three way battle for two spots on the ballot in November. Simpson finished with 45% of the vote to 35% for Cranley and 20% for Richardson.

Simpson finished on top even though she spent only $10,000 on advertising during the campaign to $675,000 spent by the Mayor. Cranley believes low voter turnout influenced the primary results and expects to do better in the fall. Only 23,399 of Cincinnati's more than 200,000 registered voters cast ballots.

The Mayor will be Bill Cunninghams guest at 12:06 today on Newsradio 700WLW to discuss the election results.
