No Charges for Hamilton Officer in Deadly Shooting

(Hamilton) The Hamilton Police Officer who shot a man who was armed with a butcher knife last month will not be facing charges.

Police say the investigation into the death of Michael Wilson-Salzl was extensive and complete. The say he was charging at officer Steven McFall when he was shot and killed.

Butler County Prosecutor Mike Gmoser says Salzl was mentally disturbed with serious psychiatric conditions. He was released from the hospital for psychiatric care the day before the shooting. Investigators say he had attempted to use a fake pistol to encourage an officer to shoot him last year.
