You Should Buy Your Meat in Bulk

For as long as I can remember, my family has ordered our beef in bulk from a local butcher, Stehlin's Meats.  You can order a Half side, Quarter side, etc.  The picture you see above is my freezer newly stocked and is what a half side of beef looks like (half of a cow)...roughly 185lbs. of meat.... in a variety of cuts: steaks, roasts, and mostly ground beef.  This half side of beef will last my family 1.5-2 YEARS!

For the life of me I cannot understand why more people don't do this same thing?

From a butcher, meat is around $3.50/$4.00a pound for ALL the cuts.  From a grocery store, ground beef alone is $5 or more a pound.  Steaks will be $7-$12 a pound.  If you can find a way to afford the up front cost, the savings over the course of a year is substantial to say the least.  AND this is free range, grass fed/corn fed beef with no hormones, chemicals, additives.  All natural.

More people need to be doing this.  It makes sense both financially and from a health standpoint. Find a freezer and do it.
