SORTA Asks to Dip into Reserves

( Cincinnati ) - Getting ready for 2018, and the Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority is expecting a budget gap.

On Tuesday, SORTA released a statement saying it's projecting a $3 million dollar deficit for 2018, and it's asking Cincinnati City Council to fill in that gap with money from the Transit Fund reserves, described as money held specifically for public transport purposes.

SORTA says if that money is denied, service could be reduced or fares increased to balance the 2018 budget. Metro CEO Dwight Ferrell admits this is a short-term fix and that the current funding model is unsustainable.
