New Bill Would Allow Some EMTs to Carry Guns

(Columbus) It would allow some paramedics and EMTs working with SWAT teams in Ohio to carry handguns on the job. State Reprepsentative Wes Retherford has introduced House Bill 79.

Under the plan, the "tactical medical professionals" would have to be authorized by their individual departments, then go through extensive firearms training and use of force classes. They would also have to meet any department standards and training requirements.

The training would take place at police academies.
