Storm Update: Duke Energy Says Most Power Should be Back Tonight

( Tri-State ) - More patience and more work to do.

Duke Energy repair crews and contractors are still dealing with tens of thousands of customers who've been blacked out since storms and tornadoes since Wednesday morning.

In the wake of those storms, over 40,000 Duke Energy customers were blacked out. By midday Thursday, a quarter of those customers were still in the dark. Duke spokesman Sally Thelen says workers are still clearing brush in addition to actually reconnecting power lines. "We obviously had tornadic activity yesterday, which isn't just a typical type of storm."

A statement from Duke on Wednesday projected that some customers in Clermont and Brown Counties, where the damage was most extensive, may not have electricity again until late tonight. That timeline is still the goal. Thelen says she'll keep us updated with any new information from the utility.
