( HAMILTON, OH ) -- Butler County's sheriff, Richard K. Jones, is standing strong on his crackdown against illegal immigration. He says that in the Butler County Jail, right now, he has hundreds of illegal immigrants in custody. He says he's also deported thousands during has tenure as sheriff.
Sheriff Jones says that cities that stay strong on their sanctuary city stance, like the cities to his north and south, Dayton and Cincinnati, will certainly have their federal funding pulled by President Donald Trump.
Sheriff Jones says that when he "called out" Dayton Chief of Police Richard S. Biehl on the sanctuary city issue, Jones claims Biehl "got real weak" and said that he would indeed cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and other federal authorities when dealing with illegal immigrants.
After Cincinnati declared themselves a sanctuary city, Hamilton County Sheriff Jim Neil said he would cooperate with the feds on illegal immigration and would not change what he had already been doing. Sheriff Jones says that Sheriff Neil has always cooperated with ICE and federal authorities.
Sheriff Jones says that the illegal immigration issue is not a partisan issue as he has talked to Republicans and Democrats who all want the issue solved and want illegal immigrants who commit crimes to be deported. He also says many that live in sanctuary cities are worried their cities will lose much-needed federal money.
Sheriff Jones says that they suspect that in coming weeks, there will be a nationwide crackdown on businesses who hire illegal immigrants, saying "It's not going to be like it was for the past 8 years. Shame on you." He also says that since he has asked residents of Butler County to call in tips on illegal immigrants that they knew about, he has seen many results from that already.
