Cincinnati Public School Expansions

( CINCINNATI, OH ) -- For the 2016-17 school year, Cincinnati Public Schools added 5 new programs to 7 neighborhood schools. For the 2017-2018 school year, that will expand to 9 more schools. Those programs include arts and culture programming, gifted education, high technology, environmental science, and student enterprise.

CPS is also going to reopen two schools as magnet schools to meet demand. The Spencer Building for Gifted and Talented Students in Walnut Hills, which will have a different look now, and LEAP (Language Enrichment and Academic Proficiency) Academy on the west side will be reopening next school year.

The Spencer Building will be a city-wide magnet that will service grades 3-8. Grades 9-12 will be added in later years. LEAP Academy will be a west side magnet. It will service grades K-3 and then in future years, it will start to service grades 4-6.

Preschool will also be expanded at the newly reopened Carthage School and Rising Star Academy. Carthage will house preschool and kindergarten classes and Rising Star Academy will house 5-6 classrooms for preschool students. CPS will have 400 additional preschool seats this fall, which will bring the total number of preschool students in the district to over 2,000.
