Winburn Not Running for Mayor

( Cincinnati ) - The deadline to file paperwork to be a part of the mayoral primary is Thursday, and Charlie Winburn says he's not running.

In an emailed statement, Winburn says that even though he's been heavily encouraged, "I have decided not to run for Mayor of Cincinnati." Earlier this year, there were reports that the Cincinnati City Councilman had pulled the petition forms.

Winburn's term-limit on council expires this year, but says he'll keep working to pass a structurally balanced city budget, and "moving our police officers out of the deplorable conditions of district 5." He says his wife continues to fight breast cancer and he says it's important that he's "by her side throughout the entire process."

With the filing deadline at 4pm, it appears that incumbent Mayor John Cranley, Cincinnati City Councilwoman Yvette Simpson, and former UC trustee Rob Richardson Jr will be the main candidates running against each other in the May 2 primary.
