Reds Trade Phillips To Atlanta

(Cincinnati, Oh.)--The Cincinnati Reds have traded long time second baseman Brandon Phillips to the Atlanta Braves.

Phillips has made three All-Star Game appearances in his 11 years with the Reds and was awarded four Gold Gloves.

Phillips is due to make $14 million this season in the final year of a six-year, $72.5 million contract. Early reports say the Reds will be responsible for paying most of that contract. The reds will also receive two minor league players from Atlanta, LHP Andrew McKirahan and RHP Carlos Portuondo.

The Cincinnati Reds attempted to trade the second baseman to Atlanta earlier in this off-season but the trade was vetoed by Phillips, thanks to a clause in his contract. Phillips batted .291 with 11 homers and 64 RBIs last season.

The Reds Pitchers and Catchers are set to Report to Goodyear Arizona Monday. The rest of the team will arrive on Wednesday.
