State Treasurer Josh Mandel Trying To Shine Light On MSD Spending

Ohio State Treasurer Josh Mandel said in an interview Wednesday with 55KRC's Brian Thomas that despite several attempts to get the Metropolitan Sewer District of Greater Cincinnati to join the Ohio Checkbook program, the organization isn't budging.

"...there's no reason why  whether its the Municipal Sewer District or a lot of these school districts they can easily put this information on line", said Treasurer Mandel. "Over one thousand cities, counties, and schools in the State of Ohio have already signed up."

Some expenses for the MSD are currently listed under the City of Cincinnati's spending account in the open checkbook program, which is available to see at ohiocheckbook.com

"we the people have right to know how the tax money is being spent and what we're doing here in the State Tresury Office is using modern technology to put this information at the fingertips of the people," said Mandel.

The FBI has been investigating the MSD and the state is currently doing an audit of the organization.

Treasurer Mandel claims bureaucrats in the MSD have offered nothing but excuses as to why they haven't sign up for the program, but Mandel said he isn't giving up.

"We are still keeping the heat on them, there's a guy in my office named Frank who's specifically assigned to this issue," said Mandel," Frank's about 6'4, 260 (lbs), he played defensive tackle in college and he's on it."
