The Ashbrook Center, an independent center at Ashland University, restores and strengthens the capacities of the American people for constitutional self-government.
Rather than teaching through textbooks or teaching about pedagogy, Ashbrook engages teachers in conversations about primary source documents and through these documents deepens the teachers’ knowledge of American history and constitutional principles. We have a great deal of evidence—from an independent evaluation as well as focus groups—that teaching with documents is highly effective in increasing teacher and student knowledge.
