( CINCINNATI, OH ) -- As it was in the past, there were only so many fire trucks and so many pieces of equipment to service a certain area. That's all changing in Cincinnati in the spirit of efficiency.
The Cincinnati Fire Department will be making the announcement that they will put new GPS trackers in all trucks that should work to everyone's benefit. When someone calls 9-1-1 with an emergency, the dispatcher can see what truck with the necessary equipment is closest to the area of the emergency and is not already involved in another emergency situation.
That truck will then head to wherever they are needed. The city of Cincinnati is already within the national parameters for response time, but this new technology will, in theory, make that response time even quicker.
Councilman Kevin Flynn said "If it's a fire, for example, they say that a fire doubles in size every minute. If it's a heart attack, seconds matter. So we will be able to save more lives more efficiently with this technology."
The official announcement will be made Monday, January 30, at the Cincinnati Fire Museum.
