Work Underway at CVG for Southwest

(Northern, Ky.)--The construction work at CVG is moving forward, as a new carrier is set to start flight out of the Cincinnati Northern Kentucky International airport this summer.

The Airports Mindy Kershner, Senior Manager of Public and Government Affairs, says that Southwest Airlines is set to take up two gates in Concourse A when they start offering flight in June. The Airline will offer flights to Chicago, Baltimore and Washington D.C.

Kershner says, the addition of Southwest to the airports line up is helping keep costs down for flyers. She says "folk's are paying 170 dollars less for a round trip ticket they were two years ago, so that's a huge difference."

The airport has now dropped to 44 on the list of most expensive airports Kershner says "we are cheaper that Dayton Louisville Lexington now and we are within dollar amounts of Columbus and Indianapolis."

The 10 million dollar expansion project will see two gates designated for Southwest that will also house new concessions and shopping for travelers.

Kershner, did not say how many jobs the addition of Southwest would create but did say it is reasonable to believe some will be created. She also says they have another exciting announcement set for January 31st.
