( Lebanon, Ohio ) - A former local prison guard may soon be an inmate himself for trying to smuggle drugs.
Warren County Prosecutor David Fornshell says that on August 26, 2016, 23-year-old Walter Richardson tried to sneak 100 Suboxone strips into the Lebanon Correctional Institution by hiding them in a rubber glove in his pocket. Fornshell says they were discovered during a routine administrative inspection. Investigators say that another inmate, whom Richardson has refused to identify, paid him $1,000 to deliver the drugs.
Suboxone is a pain killer that can help with drug addiction.
Richardson pleaded guilty on Friday to counts of illegal conveyance and drug possession. Because he was an employee of the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, mandatory prison time is required. He'll be sentenced February 27.
