(Fairfield) - The City of Fairfield Police officer who shot and killed a man while he was stabbing a woman to death will not face any charges.
Butler County Prosecutor Michael T. Gmoser announced his decision to not charge the unnamed officer today, saying in a release that the way the officer handled the attack followed police training.
Fairfield Police responded to a domestic violence call on June 22 and witnessed a man brutally stabbing another woman. Logan Willamson had a history of physical abuse against Michelle Henry, police say.
Henry was killed in the attack and Williamson died after being shot by a police officer who Gmoser says was trying to stop him.
“The law is clear and well settled that the officer acted appropriately and totally within the meaning and spirit of the law governing the situation he faced,” Gmoser wrote. “He did his duty and upheld the highest traditions of police conduct to protect and serve.”
Known as Shelly Miller to her loved ones, Henry’s father told 700WLW she was filled with love and compassion. He said she was unable to leave her abusive relationship with Williamson.
Raymond Miller is now raising awareness about domestic violence after his daughter’s death.
