Reds: Good vibes only?

Reds

The biggest available free agent bat is Eugenio Suarez.

The Athletic reports the Reds have interest, but appear to be in limbo with the uncertainty of their pending TV deal.

The Mariners, Red Sox, Pirates, and Tigers have also been linked to Suarez.

The 34-year old belted 49 homers last season, driving in 118 and hitting .228-.298-.526-.824, with an OPS+ of 126.

He's been durable. Games last five seasons: 145-150-162-158-159.

He's a strikeout machine, with 196-214-176-196 the last four years.

His '25 strikeout rate of 29.8% is above the MLB average of 22.0.

For context, the K rate of Elly was 25.9%.

He doesn't get on base. He had 657 plate appearance last season, posting just a. 298 on-base percentage. That's lower than any Red that came to the plate at least 150 times last season.

He started 152 games at 3B last season, four as a DH. He won't be playing 3B for the Reds, with Ke'Bryan Hayes there. He has played just 6.0 career innings at 1B. That reduces him to a mostly full-time DH. That's something the Reds have not done, and would limit the rotational aspect at that spot, for Sal Stewart and others.

He's a veteran, beloved and respected by his teammates when he was in Cincinnati. He's always been a willing mentor to younger players, and would offer a strong clubhouse presence.

Being the biggest bat remaining on the market brings:

1. A price tag that certainly won't be Tucker or Bichette like, but won't be cheap.

2. He'll be subject of a bidding war.
