So much for that offense, Reds lose 6-3

Marlins 6 Reds 3

Raise your hand if you saw that coming.

The last six times Reds have scored more than 10 runs in a game, they have scored  3-0-1-2-0-2 the next game.

Marlins 26-year old RHP Max Meyer was absolutely filthy. He got 14 K on 18 outs over six innings. He’d set a career-high with 10 K by the 4th…on just 53 pitches. Austin Hays articulated the night succinctly when after striking out in the 6th was clearly heard to yell “F—-!” The Reds took 48 swings and missed on 24, including 16 misses on 21 swings at his nasty sliders. Last pitcher to strike out at least 14 Reds in a game: Max Scherzer (15) in 2019 (per Gordon Wittenmyer). 6 IN, 5 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 14 K, 92 pitches/69 strikes.

The Reds drop to 11-12. It was 3-0 to the 7th, before Alexis Diaz imploded and allowed three runs.

Offense: 8 H, 1 BB, 14 K. Their only hope was vs the bullpen: 3 run 8th
Gavin Lux: 2-R HR (1)
Matt McLain: H, SB, BB, R
Noelvi Marte: 2 H, 2B, SB
Elly: H, 3 K/2 looking. Strikes out looking 33.3% of the time. MLB average 23%.
TJ Fried: H. Has reached 13 times in the last five games, but scored just once.
Jake Fraley: H

Nick Lodolo: 5.2, 7 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 4 K, 99 pitches/71 strikes/
Weird outing. Blew through 2 K 1st. Found 4 hit/2 run trouble in 2nd. Settled back in.
Five pitch 4th. HR in 5th. Couldn’t put guys away. 24 foul balls. Multiple two strike hits.

Bullpen:
Alexis Diaz: 1.1 IN, 3 H, 3 R, HBP, BB, 30 pitches/16 strikes. He allowed 5 stolen bases!
Entered w/ 2 on, 2 out in 6th. Allowed SB, got fly out. Back out for the 7th: 1B, 2B, 3-R HR , HBP and 4 SB. Dealt with a cut on his thumb. I'll say it again....I don't know how you use a guy that walks guys, or hits guys, and then doesn't hold runners on.
Emilio Pagan: 8th

Defense:
Hays and Fraley made nice catches. Steer sweet backhand pick at 1B.
Trevino threw out a base stealer. Elly strong diving stop, up and throw to 1B.
Marte failed to field a grounder. Didn’t give McLain a good throw on a failed DP.

How they scored:
8th Hays RBI FC scores McLain, 6-1 Marlins, Lux 2-R HR, 6-3 Marlins
