Here's the top trends for dating in 2025...
According to the poll of 6-thousand U.S. Plenty of Fish members, here’s what singles can look forward to in the year ahead:
- “Smutten” - It’s when singles fantasize about the storylines of romantic movies, shows or books turning into their reality. A third (33%) admit they’ve fantasized about this, but it’s even higher for women at 40%.
- “Freak Matching” - This means connecting with someone over shared quirks, unique interests, eccentricities and general “weirdness,” something 39% of singles have done.
- “Yap-trapping” - Plenty of Fish says this is when someone only talks about themselves and doesn’t make the effort to balance the conversation with give and take - “completely in un-dating their partners (pun intended!)” Half of singles say they’ve dated someone who never asked them personal questions.
- “StICK” - It turns out, seeing “icks” as deal breakers is so last year. Looking past an initial “ick” and overlooking those superficial things to pursue someone romantically is in, as “36% of daters have chosen to stICK instead of running from the ick.”
- “Grim Keeping” - This is bonding over your darker side or shared dislikes and 28% have done it over being grim and things that “rub them the wrong way.”
