91st edition of My Random Thoughts: Sports, TV, music, food, life.....
Bravo to the new Beverly Hills Cop movie. Well done. Respect for and justice to a classic.
Every time I interview a member of the Big Red Machine I feel like I'm a kid again in the 70's. What a treat to talk with George Foster this week.
Consider this your yearly reminder that you can bring food/plastic bottle drinks into GABP in a soft-sided cooler.
I'd love to play the new EA Sports CFB video game. But I can't do all those buttons.....triangle, circle, X, square, R1, R2, L1, L2. What happened to up-down-left-right?
When I attend an event, I plot out my parking spot and departure. I was very excited by our smooth, efficient and quick exit from Riverbend Thursday night. Kelly thinks I'm weird.
I've worn a Livestrong wristband everyday for 20+ years. It has nothing to do with Lance Armstrong and everything to do with Casey.
Remember the smell of Play Doh?
Fans who complain about issues like leadership, accountability and analytics have to understand those are three things they have zero idea of how they actually impact their team.
TV recommendation: Dropout (Hulu). The eight episode story of the downfall of Elizabeth Holmes and tech company Theranos. Amanda Seyfried is really, really good.
I had no idea they still sell six packs of the tiny cereal boxes! Apple Jacks, Corn Pops, Sugar Smacks, Honey Comb, etc! I'd lay them down, slice the box open and pour the milk into the box.
If you like pastrami, I would highly recommend Avril-Bleh Meats & Deli downtown.
Don't worry about things you don't care about.
Kelly converted me to a Dan & Shay fan.
Fast food sales plunge and so fast food companies start offering $5.00 meals. Amazing how that works. If only fans applied that more to concessions and event tickets.
How lucky am I? I get paid to talk about the teams I grew up with. Best job in the world!
Craig Counsell, Bob Melvin, Skip Schumaker each have losing records. Fans think ML managers matter waaaaaaaaaaaay more than they actually do.
Props to Xavier for retiring Trevon Bluiett's No. 5. Sure wish UC would do the same with Steve Logan and Sean Kilpatrick.
I believe the oldest piece of clothing I own, and still wear regularly, is a pullover from former Reds pitcher Mo Sanford. He gave it to me at a remote broadcast I did around 1998? He was with the SWOBAT Baseball and Softball Training facility.
I had multiple conversations with scouts/agents this week about the Reds needing to continue drafting/developing their pitching. Tough to get free agent pitchers to sign up for GABP. Much easier to pay free agent hitters.
PLEASE remember, you can listen to my show from ANYWHERE in the world with the iHeart Radio app or by going to www.700wlw.com/listen. ONLY Reds games are blacked out beyond Cincinnati. That's a MLB rule.
Anyone remember Reds Super Fan Chuck D? Whatever happened to him?
"I Can't Tell You Why" by The Eagles is just a phenomenal song.
Our neighbor broke her toe while wearing flip flops last week. I'll never forgot what the Urgent Care nurse told me when I broke my toe on vacation:
"Don't you know flip flops are evil?"
I'm wavering, slightly, on Season 3 of The Bear. It feels like the writers are wandering, a bit, a little stuck.
The Bengals must acknowledge they need to catch up on the Ring of Honor and expand the next class. Players from the 70's are in danger of not being around to enjoy the honor. Get the older players in now.
Fans here loooooooove 'fire' from their coaches and managers. Lou Piniella was ejected an average of once every 44.2 games with the Reds. David Bell has been ejected once every 26.8 games with the Reds.
Tim Krumrie is one tough SOB.
French Toast Heaven is moving from West Chester to Newport. That's a win for NKY. We've been there. They have French Toast flights!
Blown away by the response to our listener trip to New Orleans. Join us February 23-27! Search Cruise and Tour Lance McAlister.
