Darvish deals Padres past Reds

Quick Cap:
Padres starter Yu Darvish tossed five shutout innings in his return from the IL. Manny Machado's bases loaded double highlighted a four run 5th that gave the Padres a 5-0 lead they never relinquished. The Reds committed three errors that led to two unearned runs. The Padres broke a five game losing skid. The rubber game of this series is this afternoon.

Jeimer Candelario homered and recorded his second consecutive two hit game. He has 10 extra base hits and on pace for 53 (32 2B, 5 3B, 16 HR).

Stuart Fairchild homered to snap an 0 for 18 streak. He had been 1 for 27 vs RHP prior to the blast.

CES and Tyler Stephenson we’re not in the starting lineup (HBP). 

Eeeeeeejected: David Bell was tossed in the 7th inning for arguing balls and strikes. He kicked equipment on the on-deck circle. It was the 28th ejection of his career.

D giveth/D taketh: Errors by Nick Martinez, Luke Maile, Spencer Steer led to two unearned runs. Elly’s leaping snow cone snag of a 1st inning liner saved two runs. Will Benson made a running/sliding catch in the 2nd inning. 

Martinez: 5 IN, 6 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 3 K. Faced his former team.
1st inning: Escaped bases loaded jam. Could not escape 5th inning jam.

Another injury: Justin Wilson was drilled on inside of his right knee by a line drive and had to leave the game in 8th.
