Reds get bounceback win over Phillies

Quick Cap:
Handled a night ago, the Reds bats awoke, making Phils starter Christopher Sanchez work hard in the 1st inning and then hitting him with a four run 3rd that ended his night. The Reds pen then locked things down with 4.2 scoreless innings. The Reds have won 4 of 5 and snapped the longest active win streak in MLB (7). 

Notes:

Offense: 8 R, 10 H, 3 BB, 6 K . Five runs scored on two out hits. Phillies SP entered with a 0.73 ERA over the previous seven games. They got to Sanchez for a run in a 29 pitch 1st inning, including a 10-pitch BB by Candelario. Sanchez averages 16.9 pitches per inning. The Reds had 14 foul balls over his three innings. 

CES: 3 H, 2-out RBI 2B, 2-out RBI 1B, 1B. Rocket line out at 100.5. 

Elly bomb: 2-run HR (7), 109.9 mph off the bat, 394 feet. BB, SB (12). Per Sarah Langs. That’s six games with at least 1 HR & SB, in his first 125 career games Tied for most since at least 1901 w/ Ellis Burks, Duke Kenworthy.  

Candelario made a heck of a stop on a hot smash (109 mph) that turned into an out on Bell’s challenge. Elly and Espinal made a sweet DP turn to snuff a 6th inning threat. Elly running/sliding catch with his back to the infield 112 feet down the LF line. 

Espinal: 3 H, HR, 2 RBI. Homer came after what appeared to be a message/brushback pitch by Ricardo Pinto. Pinto then hit Fairchild. 

Tyler Stephenson BB, H…. lined a single at 107 mph. 

Will Benson snapped a career high 0 for 18 with a single. 

Andrew Abbott: 4.1 IN, 3 H, 1 R, 4 BB, 3 K, 79 pitches/46 strikes. Back-to-back 1st inning doubles put him in a 1-0 hole.
Walked bases loaded to start the 5th. He was done after a K of Schwarber, with Trea Turner due up. 

Bullpen:
Fernando Cruz: Bell gave him another big moment and again he delivered. Bases loaded with one out in the 5th and up 5-1. K of Trea Turner/fly out Realmuto. Cruz 19 K/9.2 innings. 
Buck Farmer: 2 IN
Emilio Pagan: 1 IN
Sam Moll: Just off the IL.

Sanchez was the 11th LH starter faced by the Reds in 23 games (6-5). That’s tied for 2nd most MLB (Marlins 12).
