Lodolo shines in return, Reds shutout White Sox 5-0

Reds 5 White Sox 0

Welcome back, Nick Lodolo. Big time. The left-hander dominated the White Sox in his season debut, taking a no-hitter to the 6th inning as the Reds beat the White Sox 5-0. Lodolo and two relievers combined on a two-hitter. The Reds bats jumped on Garrett Crochet for five runs in the 2nd and that was more than enough on the afternoon.

The Red move to 8-6 on the season and win back-to-back games for the first time since March 31-April 1.

Lodolo: 5.2 IN, 0 R, 1 H, 1 BB, 10 K, 2 HBP, 91 pitches,67 strikes. He took a no-hitter to the 6th before a leadoff infield single by Robbie Grossman. It was his first MLB appearance since May of last year. He was nasty.

Sox SP Garrett Crochet: 4 IN, 4 H, 5 R, 3 BB, 8 K. He entered with a 2.00 ERA over three starts, having allowed just four runs and one walk: He struck out the side in the 1st. But Jeimer Candelario's 2nd inning double jump started a 41 pitch, nine batter, five run inning. He recorded six strikeouts on his first six outs.

How they scored:
2nd: Luke Maile 2-run 2B, 2-0 Reds........Spencer Steer 3-run 2B, 5-0 Reds
The Reds had four hits on the day, all in the 2nd inning. At one point, 12 batters were retired in a row.

Fairchild: H, R, SB (5)...he had 10 SB all of last year. A heck of a diving backhanded catch!

Santiago Espinal: 2 BB, R

CES 0 for 4, 3K

Fairchild, Bubba Thompson and Spencer Steer each make stellar defensive plays in the OF.

Elly BB in the 9th to extend his on-base streak to 19 games. He did not have a ground ball hit to him until the final out of the afternoon.

Reds bats whiffed 15 times....six batters struck out at least twice...CES and Thompson three times.

Bullpen: Cruz 1IN, Suter 2 IN.
