Things that popped into my head this week.....
Sign of change: I've replaced my trusty bedroom/bathroom sink clock radio with an Amazon Echo Dot.
Did you ever dunk a ball on a Nerf Hoop hanging on your bedroom door? Such a powerful feeling!
Peyton is studying in the Netherlands this semester. She spent last weekend in Florence, Italy and his visiting London this weekend. I'm so proud of her and excited as her world continues to expand.
Do you remember a football board game where you and your opponent put a diagrammed play in a folder and then slowly revealed it over a light? Can't think of the name of it.
I drive Maher Road to Longnecks in Richwood for The Roundtable Show each Thursday. Observations: Gotta be the darkest road I've ever traveled. How about some lights? The intersection of U.S. 25 needs a stoplight. I pass an Iron Horsemen motorcycle gang clubhouse and always wonder what is going on when I drive by.
At age 65, my dad started every game at Reds Baseball Heaven and scored the walk off winning run in the championship game. This week, at age 81, he shot a lifetime best 76 at Members Club St. James in Southport, NC. Dang.
Hey, our grass is green, again. I guess my streak of mowing once in probably the last two months will come to an end.
Remember that cool sound of smashing a paper cup with your foot as a kid?
Talk about a 'your kids have grown up moment'.....I took apart Casey's childhood bedroom set last weekend.
Chill in the air. Leaves changing. Go walk Doe Run Lake in Covington. Kelly and I walked the four miles in about 90 minutes. It's an easy/moderate hike.
It's possible to be bummed the Reds didn't make the playoffs without thinking the organization waved the white flag/doesn't care about winning. The people still upset that the Reds didn't do more at the trade deadline would be complaining had they given up Matt McLain, Spencer Steer, Christian Encarnacion-Strand, Connor Phillips, or Andrew Abbott.
I had alligator this week (Alligator Sauce Piquant) at Laveau on Ft. Square. A spicy tomato stew w/ alligator and white rice. Delicious.
I'm a 'take the first available parking space vs circling for the closest spot' kind of guy.
I cranked the car stereo to Eminem - Lose Yourself this week.
New Castle, Indiana, IU sharpshooter and perfect haired Steve Alford is my favorite college basketball player all-time.
I want Joey Votto back. I see a role as a LH bat that can spot start at 1B and DH and be a much needed veteran presence. But there is no way he can be an every day player for this team.
Nobody wanted Luke Fickell fired when he went 4-8 in his first season at UC, including losses by 30 to South Florida, 28 UCF, 28 East Carolina, 17 Marshall. He went 53-10 over his next five seasons.
Ludlow Garage is a cool/historic music venue with incredible acoustics. We saw two-time Grammy award winning violinist Damien Escobar. He did things with a violin I didn't think possible. His "crossover violin" musical style mix of classical, jazz, pop, R&B, and hip hop is incredible. His version of Purple Rain brought the house down. Check him out on YouTube.
FC Cincinnati have locked up to long-term deals: Pat Noonan, Chris Albright, Roman Celentano, Matt Miazga, Obinna Nwobodo, Lucho Acosta Aaron Boupendza and Brandon Vazquez. Dang.
We finished Justified: City Primeval. Big Timothy Olyphant fan. Boyd Holbrook plays one of the bad ass/bad guy roles I've ever seen. If another season is coming, based on the ending, I am soooooo in.
Lou Anarumo joins us on Bengals Line each Monday. Whenever we mention a positive note about the defense he knocks on the wood of his chair.
If Nick Krall isn't moving Jonathan India or Elly De La Cruz to the outfield, then I just don't see India being here next season. The problem is, I don't see him bringing much in a trade.
We watched Painkillers on Netflix with Matthew Broderick. It's a drama about the causes and consequences of the opioid epidemic. Six episodes. Scary stuff.
The Modern English song 'I Melt With You" was the first song Kelly and I ever danced to. We could not make their performance at Ludlow Garage last month. Matt Zins got us a signed/framed concert poster from vocalist Michael Conroy. Incredible.
You don't think at least part of Luke Fickell's decision to leave included realizing what he had coming back on this UC roster? Come on, now.
There continues to be a large gap between what fans think Chris Evans can do for the Bengals and what coaches believe he can do for them. What other Cincinnati athletes would make a list of similar players?
Don't worry about things you don't care about.
