Reds rally, hang on, avoid sweep and snap losing streak

The Reds avoided a sweep and snapped a four game losing streak as they hung on to beat the Cardinals 7-6 at Busch Stadium Sunday afternoon.

The Reds faced a 3-0 deficit going the 5th inning, took the lead in the 7th inning, and then hung on in the 9th inning.

Human: Graham Ashcraft fought through 4.2 innings of 9 hit, 4 run ball.....needing 99 pitches.

Closer: Given a 7-4 lead in the 9th, Alexis Diaz surrendered a two-run homer to Juan Yepez to make it 7-6 before striking out Albert Pujols to end the game. Four other Reds relievers combined for 3.1 scoreless innings.....Warren 0.1, Hoffman 1.1 (W), Santillan 0.2, Cessa 1.0.

Big day: TJ Friedl had a single, triple and drove in two runs.

Big run: Tommy Pham's 8th inning solo shot made it 7-4 and provided what proved to be the winning run.

2 hit days: Brandon Drury and Aristides Aquino.

Aquino left the game after an awkward slide at home plate.
