Class project

When was 12-years old (1979) my teacher assigned our class a project. Each of us had to choose a topic and conduct and interview with someone associated with the topic.

I chose Life in the Minor Leagues.

I wrote a letter to the Indianapolis Indians (Reds Triple-A affiliate) and asked if I could interview a player. My parents drove me to Busch Stadium in Indianapolis. The Indians Media Relations Director took me down onto the field during batting practice and introduced me to pitcher Jay Howell.

Howell was reliever that went on to save 155 games in his ML career with various teams.

We climbed into the stands behind home plate about an hour before the game. I pulled out my notepad of questions and my tape recorder.
