(Cincinnati) - Several organizations across the Tri-State are responding to COVID-19 cases across the area.
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine Makes Recommendations On COVID-19 Prevention
Ohio Governor Mike Dewine spoke Tuesday afternoon, saying there are no new cases of the illness confirmed in the state. Despite this he spoke about recommendations from experts, saying the illness is more contagious than the flu. He's recommending people use discretion when going to church, including skipping services if they're sick. Blood Donors Are Needed
The Hoxworth Blood Center is asking for healthy people to donate blood amid coronavirus fears. This way, doctors say they can get supplies up in areas already being hit by the illness.
Chief Donation Officer David Oh says there's little risk with donating blood and that they centers are taking extra steps to keep safe, by making sure employees are at least a meter away from donors and visitors, and wearing gloves and face masks. All gloves will be changed between donors.
Hoxworth has seven donation centers and appointments to donate can be made by going to their website.
Cincinnati Public Schools Cancels Travel, Classes One Location
Cincinnati Public Schools says today they're canceling all domestic and international travel through the end of the 2019-2020 school year due to the illness. A total of 223 students and 29 adults were registers to travel abroad to Europe, the Bahamas or the Philippines over the next two months.
CPS also says the Academy of World Languages was closed today as a precautionary meausre after an employee put themselves into self-quarantine. Employees are conducting a deep clean of the building today.
Confirmed Case Totals Across The Tri-State
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine says there are three confirmed cases of the illness and 15 people are under investigation.
In Kentucky, six cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed and Indiana has six as well.
The Ohio State University has canceled all in-person classes until March 30th, but will allow students to stay in residence halls. Berea College in Kentucky will stop classes on March 13th and ask students to move out on March 14th.
