Golf Manor responds to former tax commissioner's theft in office

The former tax commissioner of Golf Manor who pleaded guilty to attempted theft in office in August used the village credit card for more than $9,000 she used for herself. That is the finding of an 2016 audit by the State of Ohio.

Jamie Smith, 38, was sentenced to three years of community control and restitution.

The Village of Golf Manor releasing a statement today, saying they've worked closely with the Ohio State Auditors office to make sure something like this can't happen again. After identifying vulnerabilities in their procedures, they implemented safeguards identified by the Auditor and their team, saying their confident that "these controls will prevent any such loss in the future."

Smith charged personal purchases at Walmart ($356 for food, dog food, miscellaneous items), Aaron's Furniture ($921), LaRosa's Pizza home delivery ($73), and various purchases at Craig's List, Disney, Target, Kohl's, and for medical expenses that were not properly documented.
