(Green Township) - The centerpiece of Green Township’s Memorial is a 12-foot long piece of structural steel from one of the World Trade Center Twin Towers. This artifact was donated to Green Township by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
The World Trade Center Steel arrived in Green Township on August 26, 2011, culminating a 2-year effort by Linda Tenhundfeld and Green Township to acquire it. Linda Tenhundfeld’s tireless efforts secured one of the largest pieces of steel given out by the Port Authority. The steel was originally 24 feet long and weighed 4 tons. It was cut in half to facilitate transport to Green Township.
Green Township donated the other half of this steel artifact to the Cincinnati Fire Museum, where it currently serves as a traveling memorial.
The Green Township Memorial is dedicated to all those who lost their lives in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, to our heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice, and to all first responders who serve communities nationwide.
