(Cincinnati, OH) - Cincinnati Police say that at approximately 12:15 p.m. Sunday, District 3 Officers responded to the 4700 block of Highridge Ave. in the West Price Hill area for a report of a residential alarm. Upon arrival, officers encountered a resident with a dog on a chain on the front porch of a home. Officers requested that the resident secure the dog inside the home. The resident complied with this request, however a second dog escaped from the home and charged at one of the officers. The officer attempted to defend his or herself by kicking at the dog. But the dog continued to aggressively lunge at the officer. The officer drew a service firearm and shot the dog twice, striking the dog in the body and stopping the attack. The SPCA responded to the scene and removed the dog, which was still alive at that time. The SPCA gave the dog owners permission to transport the animal for veterinary care. The officers on the scene were not injured. District 3 is actively investigating this incident. The SPCA is also investigating.
