( Columbus ) - A statement by the Ohio Secretary of State says a group trying to legalize marijuana in Ohio with a state constitutional amendment can now start collecting signatures.
The Ohio Ballot Board has certified the proposed amendment as a single issue. The initiative petition summary says the amendment would let any Ohioan 21 years and older "possess, cultivate, process, use, transport, sell, purchase and share marijuana in Ohio."
Now that the proposed amendment has been certified, petitioners must collect ten percent of the total vote cast in the most recent gubernatorial election in 2014. That totals 305,591 valid signatures. Those signatures must come from 44 of Ohio's 88 counties.
The group is looking to get the amendment on the ballot in 2019.
