CHEVIOT – St. Martin of Tours School is closed until Monday after a student tested positive for viral meningitis.
Principal Jason Fightmaster posted Wednesday night on Facebook about the closure. Fightmaster writes that the Cheviot school has been in constant contact with Hamilton County Public Health.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, viral meningitis is an inflation of the tissue that covers the brain and spinal cord. It’s less severe than bacterial meningitis, but it can be contagious. Symptoms include fever, headache, and stiff neck.
In the past few days, several students have been sent home with similar symptoms, so the school is closing through April 27 as a precaution. During that time, the school will be cleaned.
Students were sent home with “Blizzard Bags” full of school work to be completed and turned in on Monday.
The student who was diagnosed with the virus is recovering well, Fightmaster writes.
