This date 2006: UC hires Mick Cronin

Mick Cronin returned to his hometown and his alma mater as he accepted the position of head coach of the UC Bearcats.

Cronin inherited a decimated program and fractured fan base and proceeded to resurrect basketball in Clifton.

His UC teams went 296-146 (.670) over his 13 seasons.

After posting 11-19 and 13-19 records in his first two seasons, Cronin's teams averaged 21 wins a year in his final 11 seasons.

1st two seasons: 24-38 (.387)

Next 11 seasons: 272-109 (.779)

He won at least 20 games in each of his last nine seasons and went 89-18 over the final three seasons with the Bearcats. Cronin took the Bearcats to the Sweet 16 in 2012.

He departed for UCLA with the Bearcats one of just six schools to advance to the NCAA Tournament each of the previous nine seasons (Duke, Gonzaga, Kansas, Michigan State, North Carolina).
