July 1, 1973: Dodgers pitcher Don Sutton is one strike from dropping the Reds 12 games out of 1st place when third string catcher Hal King hits a stunning homer to give the Reds 4-3 win in Game 1 of a doubleheader. The Reds won the nightcap in 10 innings on a Tony Perez two-run double. The night jump started the Reds to a record of 60-26 the rest of the way to win the NL West.
