Western and Southern Open 2019: Day 4 Recap

Day 4 of the Western and Southern Open saw a lot of big names fall.

Maria Sharapova, Sasha Zverev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Stan Wawrinka, Benoit Paire, Denis Shapovalov, Victoria Azarenka, Jenifer Brady, Frances Tiafoe, and Nick Kyrgios all fell in 2nd round action.

A few top players did get through.

Simona Halep survived a slow start to defeat Ekaterina Alexandrova 3-6, 7-5, 6-4.

World number 2 Ashleigh Barty made short work of Maria Sharapova winning 6-4, 6-1

Sloane Stephens also overcame a slow start to win her match with Yulia Putintseva 2-6, 6-4, 6-3

World Number 1 Naomi Osaka also overcame a slow start to win 7-6(3), 2-6, 6-2

Finally the team of Caty McNally and Alison Riske went to a third set tiebreaker in double defeating Gabriela Dabroski and Yifan Xu 6-7(5), 6-4, 17-15.
