Women's Singles Final

Kiki Bertens Defeats (1) Simona Halep 2-6, 7-6 (6), 6-2

In the first set, Halep jumped out to an early lead breaking Bertens in her second service game. From there she would cruise to an easy 1st set victory. Halep was greatly helped by landing 93% of her first serves in.

Bertens in the second set would jump out with an early break taking a 4-1 lead. Halep would respond with a break of her own, and then hold serve to bring it back to 4-3. Both women would go on to hold serve the rest of the way sending the set to a tiebreaker. Halep would jump out to a 2-0 lead early in the tiebreak, but Bertens would win the next 4 points  to move ahead 4-2. Halep would win 4 of the next 6 points and tie the score at 6-6. Bertens would win the next 2 points to send the match to a third set.

Both players would score a break early, but just like the second set, Bertens would jump out again 4-1. Both women would hold serve on the next change over, so it would be Bertens serving for the match. Bertens would serve it out and become the 2018 Western and Southern Open Women's Champion.

For Bertens it is her first hardcourt title. For Halep it is her third finals loss in four years, and snaps a 9 match winning streak. Both women are scheduled to compete in the Connecticut Open next week, before going on to New York for the US Open.

Men's Singles Final
