Western and Southern Open: Round 2 Update

Alexander Zverev and Robin Haase shake hands post match.

Round two will wrap up on Thursday after rain pushed a trio of matches off the court late Wednesday night. Thursday is also the start of round three.  Here's a slightly early wrap up of round two.

Men's Singles

The upset of the day belongs to Robin Haase. Haase beat the 3-seed Alexander 'Sascha' Zverev in three sets. Zverev could be seen to be extremely frustrated as play went on, and ultimately would fall to Haase. Haase will move on to play the 13-seed Pablo Carreno-Busta in the round of 16.

The other notable upset of the day saw Denis Shapovalov knock out the 14-seeded Kyle Edmunds in straight sets. He will go on to play Milos Raonic who advanced after beating Rafael Nadal's replacement Malek Jaziri also in straight sets.

The biggest action on the men's stage belonged to court 10. After a meltdown earlier in the day by Frenchman Benoit Paire, the Australian Nick Kyrgios had his own issues with the chair umpire, leading him to admit to intentionally not competeing in the second set, and hitting a tennis ball out of court ten over into the box seats in Centre Court. Paire would lose his match to Belgian David Goffin. Kyrgios would win his match and will play the winner of the Hyeon Chung and Juan Martin del Potro, which was postponed due to rain. Chung and del Potro will play this afternoon.

Other notable winners on Wednesday;

10th seeded Novak Djokovic defeated Adrian Maanarino 4-6, 6-2, 6-1
