Many North Koreans are celebrating the Lunar New Year with the gift of crystal meth this year. The New York Times reports that the drug, known as "Pingdu," has become a popular go-to holiday gift within the country, despite its illegal nature. North Korean authorities are trying to crack down on the drug trade, but sources say it's popularity is unaffected. Reports show citizens inject and snort the "ice drug" just as causally as people smoke in other countries, as it is continually handed out for graduations, birthdays and holidays. Radio Free Asia said that it is popular among young people and officials are essentially bribed to look the other way. Despite all this, state-run media has claimed that drugs that "cripple" people do not exist within the nation.
