Costumed surfers ranging from Colonel Sanders to a red pussy cat strutted their stuff on the waves just north of the Newport Beach Pier, yesterday. The "Orange County Register" reports that the biggest such event in OC draws about 100 people every year. It was originally a Halloween costume contest sponsored by the Blackies Classic Longboard Association, but, now it's more of a casual affair.
A smaller Halloween gathering of costumed surfers will take place at eight o'clock this morning, around lifeguard tower 20 at Bolsa Chica State Beach in Huntington Beach. It's sponsored by the Wahine Kai Women's Surf Club.
