A bear trapped in a storm drain was able to climb to freedom last week after Colorado utility workers removed a manhole cover. The Colorado Parks and Wildlife's Southeast Region shared a video of the bear peaking out of the drain, waiting to be rescued. Once the workers removed the manhole cover, the bear gently climbed out and ran off. A rubber bullet was used to haze the bear so it would be encouraged to leave the area. The department wanted to avoid tranquilizing and relocating the bear because that would be a strike against it and could lead to it being euthanized later on.
