A former deputy sheriff in Kentucky, who was accused by prosecutors of targeting individuals smaller and weaker than himself and assaulting them during routine traffic stops, has been sentenced to just over nine years in prison, as per a U.S. Justice Department statement.
Tanner M. Abbott, a Danville resident and former deputy at the Boyle County Sheriff's Office, was convicted on multiple charges, including four counts of constitutional rights violations, one count of conspiracy, and one count of falsifying records. Abbott, 31, was terminated in 2021 after he revealed the identity of a confidential informant on Facebook when he found out the informant had criticized him online. He had joined the sheriff's office in 2017, following a stint as a pizza delivery driver, court records show.
